Better Ball was a vintage French chewing gum brand produced by the Société Royal in Paris during the late 1940s and 1950s. It is primarily remembered today by collectors for its rare sport-themed collectible insert cards ("vignettes") packaged inside the gum. The Palmarès Sportif (Sports Achievements) set is thought to have been released in 1951-52 and consisted of 240 thin paper cards that were distributed in the gum and meant to be glued into an accompanying album. The photo headshots were produced by BUT & Miroir Sprint. The set included a variety of different sports and French athletes, many of which played in the previous 1948 Olympics in London. There were 21 basketball players in the set, including the entire French Olympic team and many French hall of fame players: André Buffière, Robert Monclar, Jacques Perrier, Jacques Dessemme and René Chocat. These tiny fragile cards are extremely rare. Sizes vary as they were manually cut.
