ALBUM LOS CHARRUAS BASKET-BALL HELSINSKY CARDS (URUGUAY)
The maker of the Album Los Charruas album is unknown, but the cover declares it the most complete collection of soccer from the interior and Montevideo (capital of Uruguay). The exact number of cards in the set is also unknown, but there is one page in the album that features 11 cards of the 1952 Uruguay Olympic basketball team. Uruguay’s basketball team was heavily involved in controversy during the 1952 Helsinki games. They players were referred to as the “Stormy Petrels” of the tournament due to their aggressive behavior. During a game against France, a riot broke out where Uruguay players allegedly knocked out an American referee, Vincent Farrell. The incident resulted in police and officials entering the court to restore order, with reports noting that the Uruguayans were "livid with rage". The album and the cards are miniature in size.
